Freestyle Terrain Safety
Freestyle Terrain may contain jumps, hits, ramps, banks, fun boxes, jibs, rails, half pipes, quarter pipes, snow cross, bumps and other constructed or natural terrain features. Prior to using Freestyle Terrain, you are responsible for familiarizing yourself with Freestyle Terrain and obeying all instructions, warnings and signs. Freestyle skill is required maintaining control on the ground and in the air.
Use of Freestyle Terrain exposes you to the risk of serious injury or death. Inverted aerials are not permitted. You assume the risk, and you must know the primary safety messages associated with Smart Style Freestyle Terrain:
MAKE A PLAN
Every time you use Freestyle Terrain, make a plan for each feature you want to use. Your speed, approach and take off will directly affect your maneuver and landing.
LOOK BEFORE YOU LEAP
You are responsible for inspecting Freestyle Terrain before initial use and throughout the day. The features vary in size and change constantly due to snow conditions, weather, usage, grooming, and time of day. Scope around the jumps first not over them. Do not jump blindly. Use a spotter when necessary. Know your landings are clear and clear yourself out of the landing area.
EASY STYLE IT
Always ride or ski in control and within your ability level. Do not attempt Freestyle Terrain unless you have sufficient ability and experience to do so safely. You control the degree of difficulty you will encounter in using Freestyle Terrain both on the ground and in the air. Start small and work your way up. Inverted aerials not permitted.
RESPECT GETS RESPECT
Respect Freestyle Terrain and others from the lift line through the park. Only one person is permitted on a feature at a time. Wait your turn and call your start. Always clear the landing area quickly. Respect all signs and do not enter Freestyle Terrain or use features when closed.
Morning Star Terrain Park and Half Pipe
The Morning Star Terrain Park is an advanced-level terrain park which includes larger and more challenging fun boxes, rails, and features for the skier or snowboarder who has advanced skills. The fun boxes are built into the snow with metal coping around the perimeter of the box and a sheet of plastic over the entire top of the box. The plastic provides a nice slick surface for sliding across.
The rails are made out of 4” x 2” rectangular metal tubing, with the exception of the 20’ shotgun rail which is made out of two 2” round pipes side by side. The more advanced rails will be higher off the ground and some are kinked. The ramps may or may not have a gap to the rails.
This season, you may see the following features in the Morning Star Terrain Park:
- 24’ Mailbox and 20’ Rainbow Box
- 48’ Battleship Rail, 40’ Down-Flat-Down Rail, 32’ Straight Rail, 30’ Flat down Rail, 23' C-Box, and 20’ Shotgun Rail
- Rollers, Banked Turns, Spines, Step-ups, Step-downs, and Hips
The Morning Star Half Pipe is carved out of the ground and is approximately 425’ long with 12’ walls. It is groomed with a Zaugg pipe groomer to provide the best contour and surface condition. The Morning Star Half Pipe is located at the bottom of the Morning Star trail and is accessible by the Morning Star chairlift. Passengers on the Morning Star lift have a great view of the Morning Star Terrain Park and Half Pipe.
Shooting Star Progression Terrain Park and Half Pipe
The Shooting Star Terrain Park is designed as an entry-to-intermediate level terrain park which includes fun boxes, rails, and various features for the skier or snowboarder who is learning how to use freestyle terrain. Features are built closer to the snow base and are classified as ride-ons meaning that the snow slopes right up to the beginning of the box or rail. No jumping is required.
To date this season, the following features have been built in the Shooting Star Terrain Park with more rollers, turns, spines, and step-downs planned for the season:
- 24’ Fun Box
