The Bristol Mountain Freestyle Team provides athletes with the opportunity to master their freestyle skiing/riding skills in competitive moguls, big air, terrain park, and the half pipe. Whether you’re interested in training hard with the hope of making the US Freestyle Team someday, competing at local events, or you would like to improve your mogul, air, or pipe skills, we have a program that teaches these skills, tactics, and maneuvers. A strong emphasis is placed on safe skiing and riding while having fun. Coaching is included at selected USSA/USASA sanctioned events.

The Bristol Mountain Freestyle Snowboard Team competes in USASA Western NY competitions in Slopestyle, Half Pipe and Boardercross, with the ultimate goal of qualifying for the USASA Nationals competition in April at Copper Mountain. Coaching is included for team members at selected local and regional events.

2011-12 Season – Alpine Terrain Park Freestyle Team

This upcoming season, the Bristol Mountain Alpine Terrain Park Team will be an expansion of our Parkrunners program to include dedicated training for Freeride/Slopestyle and Half Pipe on both Saturday and Sunday. These athletes will have the ability to compete at local USSA and/or USASA events or just train with the team to develop their skills. The program will focus on park safety/etiquette, the fundamentals of skiing, air (takeoffs, form, landings), rails, etc., all while having a great time!

As always we would like to attract new members to our team. We have a great group of coaches and athletes who make the whole experience fun and comfortable. We do some pretty exciting things and build some really cool stuff to train and compete on (come and check out the Upper Meteor jump site!). We hand shovel our mogul courses and jumps and soften all the landings to limit the impact of landing and make things as safe as possible. Our program provides training in Moguls, Aerials, and Freeride and is pretty flexible per the interests of the individual athlete. We all work hard, train hard, and have a blast doing it – all we are missing is YOU!! Come and check us out!

Freestyle News

By Johnny Kroetz

The 2010-11 winter was another great season for the Bristol Freestyle Team. The Bristol team won the Flite Cup at Holimont despite having the smallest program there and ended their season by almost taking a first place team finish at the USSA Eastern Division Freestyle Championships at Mount Snow. Bristol won both the Moguls and Aerials team awards but narrowly lost in the overall category to the host Mount Snow program. Mount Snow has almost 3 times as many athletes entered in the event and there were 23 teams from the Eastern Division participating in three days of events which included Slopestyle, Moguls, and Aerials. Way to go team!!!

Our recent graduate, Jonathon Lillis, completed his first full year as a member of the US Ski Team competing in several World Cup events and finishing 2nd at Junior Nationals. He spent the entire summer training at the US Team facility in Park City, Utah and now has qualified jumps with 3 flips and up to 5 full twists. He is setting up for an amazing year on the World Cup circuit.

The entire team has been hard at work training in the off season. Several athletes traveled all the way to Arapahoe Basin in Colorado in May to train with members of the US Mogul team. Then it was off to the Olympic Jumping Complex in Lake Placid where the team held two full camps with about 25 athletes over 6 days. Four of our members spent extended periods training at the complex; some logging roughly 75 days! With all of this off-season dedication as well as the awesome in-season training the whole team gets at Bristol, this should be a very good year!

Our team welcomes skiers at many levels; you don't need to be the next World Cup superstar to join us! As long as you can ski all the terrain at Bristol and have a passion for learning the sport we have a program that will meet your needs. We are always looking for new members who want to improve their skills in the bumps, in the air, and riding the park. And our program will suit you whether you just want to improve your skills or become that next World Cup superstar! Come give us a try and see you on the slopes!
